Recently watched Compliance, which is something I’ve been wanting to do since reading about the film at last year’s Sundance. Ridiculous Q and A antics aside, it’s a brilliant film. Exasperating and provocative, but brilliant. Craig Zobel, who also directed Great World of Sound, hones shockingly close to the core events which inspired the film, an actual 2004 incident at a McDonald’s in Kentucky. It’s a sad portrait of what’s become of a population educated and indoctrinated in a culture which doesn’t just ignore logic and critical thinking skills, but is actively discouraging independent thought. Somewhere, Stanley Milgram is shaking his head rebukingly.
